Daniel R Schiff is 'that young man' who Reynardine possessed in order to try to win Surma's affections. This however backfired, and led to Renard entering Sivo's body (a Rogat Orjak) and becoming imprisoned. Daniel died as a result of the possession and Renard now regularly visits his grave out of guilt as penance for his crime. He is seen in a flashback to have been a regular visitor to Gillitie Wood (doing the 'evening survey') and known to Surma.
